In this #SGU campaigns alert http://tl.gd/7l7gs2 I had urged the need for campaigns coming together, this time I address another aspect that I know many people would like to see happen.
This involves SyFy or to be more accurate the lack of. A few #SaveSGU Campaigns have emerged since@SyFy announced SGU's cancellation on the 16th of December. Some of these campaigns plus those that have recently emerged have been suggesting a boycott of the SyFy network, I'll admit in the heat of the moment after the news reached me regarding SGU, I too may have suggested such actions but then reason hit me. A boycott of the SyFy network will instantly be a fruitless campaign and a waste of campaign resources. SyFy has made its decision and will be around long after your campaigns have exhausted its flame of defiance.
If the aim of your campaign is to help save the Stargate franchise/SGU then you need to focus on that and that alone. Aggression is not the key to success it's a misleading obstacle that will be the death of your campaign. Your campaign will be shunned upon even before it begins. To gain the fruits of your labour for this campaign you have to put aside your personal feelings for SyFy and keep the renewal of SGU as your central focus, that means looking to other networks to pick up SGU and aiming your campaigns towards them in such a way that they will see the passion and loyalty that Stargate fans have to offer.
Very recently @ShowPatrol released a blog post (http://bit.ly/hc87eP) regarding Brad Wright's stance on the current situation SGU and the franchise faced. In the post you will clearly see that "He and officials at franchise owner MGM have been discussing several options" in regards to "exploring options for continuing the series in some form." MGM's involvement is clear, they are doing what they can in conjunction with Stargate's big cheeses to ensure the survival of the Stargate franchise.
This news is a broadcast of hope to the Stargate community and it's a beacon. It's down to all of you to decide whether your campaigns will use this message of hope or whether you'll let an opportunity like this just dither away. How? Be active. Encourage all your supporters to go out and buy the DVD's, watch the show live when it returns on SyFy back in April. Keep people aware because a lot of people will lose interest unless you get them involved. Such campaigns as @SGUAwareness tried to do this prior to SGU's cancellation and they did it admirably. Don't forget your campaign should not be about a mere presence on a few social media sites, a web base or signing petitions. It is a community effort that needs to be seen and it is a joint community effort that will appeal to networks.
"We haven't given up on finishing the story we started," - Brad Wright
Don't give up when it's only just begun and don't throw it all away through distractions. Honestly, this will not be a walk in the park and there will be times where you'll think this whole campaign is pointless. And those are the moments where you must find it within yourself to climb over that hurdle because only then will you have what you need to push forward.
To all Stargate fans and Campaigners I wish you all good luck in your efforts. We can do this, if we do it right.
