In Deadline's July 22 report that Amazon MGM Studios had ordered a RoboCop series from Blumhouse's Atomic Monster, the piece noted lower down: "Amazon recently opted not to go forward with a previously greenlighted Stargate TV series; search is underway for a new writer to tackle the IP." The line, spotted and amplified across social media, landed as a fresh gut-punch for a fandom still fighting to save Martin Gero's scrapped revival.
As CinemaBlend reported, the mention "struck a nerve," with fans flooding the comments to insist there is "no Stargate without" Gero and his attached team of franchise veterans. The frustration arrives at a charged moment: the #SaveStargate campaign's petition has topped 110,000 signatures, and organizers are heading into San Diego Comic-Con weekend with a planned banner flyover, an in-person presence, and a coordinated "#SaveStargate Day" set for July 25.
The important caveat, however, is that the Deadline line is not actually new information. As several outlets have pointed out, the "search is underway for a new writer" language simply restates the intention Amazon expressed back when the cancellation broke in early June — that it would pass on Gero's version and eventually develop the Stargate brand with different writers. There is no confirmed writer attached, no reported reversal, and no public statement from the studio, which has stayed silent through the petition, the demonstrations, and the growing list of cast members backing the campaign. In other words: a recycled talking point resurfaced at a moment when fans were primed to read any mention of Stargate as movement — but nothing has actually changed.
