The write-up marks another step for a grassroots effort that began after Amazon MGM Studios canceled its planned Stargate revival from showrunner Martin Gero earlier this summer.
According to the blog, fans are heading to San Diego on Friday, July 24 with a banner flyover above the San Diego Convention Center scheduled from 11am to 1pm. Later that day, supporters can gather at Bay City Brewery (627 Eighth Ave) for a #SaveStargate Happy Hour rooftop event from 6pm to 9pm, with organizers teasing "surprises" throughout the day. No Comic-Con badge is required to attend, and the event is open to all fans.
The report notes the campaign has already organized flyovers over Amazon MGM Studios in Culver City, rallies at fan-funded billboards in New York City, and international events across Europe, fueled by a petition that has gathered well over 100,000 signatures. The "Save Stargate with Martin Gero!" petition on Change.org listed 112,452 verified signatures at the time of writing. Organizers say San Diego is not the last stop: additional #SaveStargate presences are planned for Dragon Con in Atlanta and Rose City Comic Con in Portland.
Whether the campaign changes Amazon MGM's plans remains to be seen, but the growing attention from con press underlines that fans are not ready to close the gate.
