Stargate Heads Inside San Diego Comic-Con: SG-1 Tabletop RPG and a New 5e Episode Join the #SaveStargate Push

With San Diego Comic-Con arriving this weekend, the fan-led #SaveStargate campaign is pushing beyond its offsite flyovers and rooftop gatherings and into the convention itself. According to the San Diego Comic-Con Unofficial Blog's July 20 update, fans will be able to sit down and play the Stargate SG-1 tabletop roleplaying game on Saturday, July 25, in the convention center's gaming area (Room 16AB on the Mezzanine, per the blog) — giving the franchise a hands-on presence inside the hall rather than only in the skies above it.

The campaign is also premiering a brand-new episode of the Collectors' Edition Stargate 5e tabletop RPG, created exclusively for San Diego Comic-Con, debuting that same Saturday in support of the movement. It lands on #SaveStargate Day, a coordinated July 25 effort that asks fans, creators, podcasters, and sci-fi communities to flood social media with positive Stargate content and show that the fandom is still active and organized.

The events cap a busy Comic-Con stretch for the campaign, which formed after Amazon MGM Studios canceled Martin Gero's planned Stargate revival earlier this summer. Organizers say a fan petition has now gathered roughly 115,000 signatures, and the weekend also includes a banner flyover above the San Diego Convention Center on Friday, July 24 (11am–1pm) and a #SaveStargate Happy Hour at Bay City Brewery, 627 Eighth Ave, from 6pm–9pm — no convention badge required. Further stops are planned at Dragon Con in Atlanta and Rose City Comic Con in Portland. Whether the momentum changes Amazon MGM's plans remains to be seen, but fans are making clear they aren't ready to close the gate.
