The Ark Returns for Season 3 with Stargate's Dean Devlin and Jonathan Glassner Still at the Helm

With Amazon MGM's Stargate revival still shelved, the closest thing to new Stargate DNA on television arrived this week. The Ark returned for its third season on SYFY on Wednesday, July 29 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, ending a gap of nearly two years since the Season 2 finale aired in 2024. The series is co-created and co-showrun by Dean Devlin, who co-wrote and co-produced the 1994 Stargate film alongside Roland Emmerich, and Jonathan Glassner, co-creator of Stargate SG-1. The pair also worked together previously on The CW's The Outpost.

Set roughly 100 years in the future, The Ark follows the crew of Ark One as they search for a new home for humanity. According to the official logline, Season 3 "begins after the crew of Ark 1 have established their new colony, Homebase 1. Captain Garnet and some of her brave team return to space in the hopes of finding other lost Earth survivors. The rest of her team remain on Homebase 1 to explore their new world but an unsettling discovery makes everyone wonder what secrets this new planet is hiding and how safe it really is." Christie Burke leads the cast as Sharon Garnet, alongside Reece Ritchie, Richard Fleeshman, Stacey Read, Ryan Adams, Pavle Jerinic and Tiana Upcheva.

Announcing the renewal via SYFY's press release, Devlin said: "We're thrilled to launch another season of The Ark! Back in space again and the best is yet to come!" Burke, speaking to Collider ahead of the premiere, teased new technologies, a deeper dig into the show's origins and "incredibly complicated" new villains, adding that she believes Season 3 "is genuinely our best season." The first two seasons are streaming on Peacock in the US.

The timing is hard to ignore for Stargate fans. Amazon MGM Studios scrapped Martin Gero's planned Stargate series in June 2026 — a decision Variety reported was driven by executive concerns that the show would not appeal beyond the franchise's existing fanbase — and the #SaveStargate campaign has been pressing the studio to reconsider ever since. For now, The Ark is where two of the franchise's founding creative voices are actually making space television.
