#SaveStargate Responds to the Jac Schaeffer News: "Cautiously Optimistic" — but "No Interest in a Remake or Reboot"

The #SaveStargate fan campaign has issued its first formal response to the news that Amazon MGM Studios has WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer developing a new Stargate series. In a press release dated October 10, the campaign said it is "cautiously optimistic" about the new production team, while making clear that the fanbase "has no interest in a remake or reboot."

"While we had hoped to change Amazon's mind with regard to Gero's series, we also want to ensure whatever Ms Schaeffer and Amazon decide to produce respects both the existing canon and tone of the previous shows," said Shelley Knepley of the campaign. The release points to Schaeffer's history with Marvel Studios and to the involvement of producers who worked on Martin Gero's cancelled version as reasons for its guarded optimism. It also notes that, despite four months of fan pressure, Amazon MGM Studios itself has not publicly commented.

Knepley added that the Stargate community "has a reputation for being kind and welcoming to new fans" and extended that welcome to Schaeffer and her team, saying the campaign "will gladly support a showrunner who honors the seventeen seasons of television that have come before." The statement was also picked up by CBR, which reported that the campaign will now continue by encouraging Schaeffer to set the new series within the existing canon.

The campaign began in June after Amazon dropped Gero's series, and has since staged banner flyovers over Amazon Studios in Culver City and San Diego Comic-Con, billboard advertising in New York, and events in London, France, Rotterdam and Australia. The release says more convention appearances are planned for the autumn and into 2027, as fans mark the 30th anniversary of Stargate SG-1's premiere. Neither Variety's original report nor Deadline's has yet said anything about the new show's setting or its relationship to SG-1, Atlantis and Universe.
