Robert Patrick Turns Up the Volume for #SaveStargate — and Points the Spotlight at Joe Flanigan
Robert Patrick, who played Colonel Marshall Sumner in Stargate: Atlantis, has grown into one of the #SaveStargate campaign's most visible celebrity backers since Amazon MGM Studios halted Martin Gero's planned new series. In a mid-June post on X reflecting on his time in the franchise, Patrick wrote: "Hello Stargate universe! I truly enjoyed my time as part of the Stargate Atlantis family. 'Colonel Marshall Sumner.' Many of the cast are still in my life to this day. That's rare. This community is rare. #SaveStargate LFG!!!!!" His endorsement was covered by outlets including CBR and ScreenRant.
On June 20 he went a step further, addressing fans who had asked why a man whose character was killed off early in the show would throw himself behind the campaign. "A lot of folks have asked why I jumped into the #SaveStargate campaign," Patrick wrote. "Truth is, this was never about how many episodes I appeared in. It was about supporting friends, standing behind a cast and crew I respect and recognizing one of the most passionate fan communities out there… When people care that deeply about something and work that hard to keep it alive, I'm happy to lend my voice. Some things are worth getting loud about. LFG #SaveStargate"
According to Cosmic Book News, Patrick closed the post by tagging castmates — including Rachel Luttrell, the Teyla actress credited with pulling him into the campaign, and Joe Flanigan, who led Atlantis for all five seasons as Lt. Colonel John Sheppard. Flanigan has been dark on X since 2025, making the tag less a realistic summons than a public nudge toward the franchise's most prominent holdout — the one major Atlantis lead who has yet to surface during the campaign.
The renewed star push lands as the "Save Stargate with Martin Gero" petition endorsed by the savestargate.com campaign hub passed 100,000 verified signatures, with fans planning a rally in New York's Times Square on June 27. Amazon MGM has not publicly commented on the campaign.
