#SaveStargate Eyes a Comic-Con Flyover as Fan Campaign Vows It's "Just Getting Started"

Days after a fan-funded #SaveStargate banner plane circled Amazon MGM Studios in Culver City on June 16, the organizers behind the protest say they are already plotting their next move. According to GateWorld, the campaign is exploring a second aerial display — this time over San Diego Comic-Con in July, where the franchise's fans gather in force every summer. "Our demonstration and social media campaign today is not the end; we're just getting started," organizer James Kerfoot said.

The campaign's momentum has been hard to ignore. GateWorld reports the June 16 tweetstorm climbed to #4 on Twitter's U.S. trending charts, while a fan livestream from outside the Culver Studios sign drew more than 93,000 concurrent viewers on YouTube. The supporting GoFundMe — which set an initial goal of $4,500 to cover the first flight and doubled it within days — now stands at more than $11,000, and the "Save Stargate with Martin Gero" petition has gathered more than 87,000 signatures calling on Amazon MGM to revive the series in the spirit of the original shows.

Amazon MGM canceled creator Martin Gero's revival on June 2, reportedly concerned the show "would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise's already dedicated fanbase." Organizers have built their entire pitch around rejecting that logic. "We hope the studio sees us out here today and realizes that existing fandom is a backbone and not a barrier for new audiences," Kerfoot said, adding that the campaign has already drawn newcomers experiencing Stargate for the first time. Cast members across all three live-action series — including Michael Shanks, Christopher Judge, Rachel Luttrell, Paul McGillion, David Nykl, and Atlantis pilot guest star Robert Patrick — have lined up behind the effort, even as Amazon MGM has yet to publicly address the revolt.

Fans who want to take part can find the campaign's action guide, petition, and fundraiser through the official #SaveStargate hub.
