#SaveStargate Heads to Times Square: Fans Plan June 27 Rally as Amazon Stays Silent
The fan-led #SaveStargate campaign is going coast-to-coast. After flying a banner plane over Amazon MGM's Culver City lot on June 16, organizers say they will rally in New York's Times Square on Saturday, June 27, from 1 to 2 p.m. ET, in front of billboards urging Amazon MGM Studios to revive Martin Gero's canceled Stargate series. The Times Square date is listed on the campaign's official events calendar at savestargate.com.
The New York push comes from the same fan-funded operation behind the Culver City flyover. Organizer James Kerfoot, whose GoFundMe bankrolled the banner plane, says the same fundraising has now covered the Times Square billboards. "Our first stop was California to fly a banner over the Culver City Studios," Kerfoot said in a statement. "We knew we couldn't limit our efforts to California, so this week we rally in NYC to have our voices heard." He framed the event as "just the next stop, not the last one," with the campaign billing Times Square as its "America" stop, a "Europe" edition slated for July 18, a "World" event timed to San Diego Comic-Con on July 25, and a "Space" edition penciled in for August.
The stunts come as the petition asking Amazon MGM to revive the series has passed 100,000 verified signatures, and cast members including Michael Shanks, Rachel Luttrell, and Robert Patrick have publicly lent their voices. Organizers have also announced that #SaveStargate tweetstorms will now run every Wednesday, beginning June 24. Amazon, which reportedly halted the Gero-led project roughly 20 weeks into preproduction in early June, has so far made no public statement on the petition, the flyover, or the campaign.
The #SaveStargate effort is an independent, fan-made campaign and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Amazon, MGM, Prime Video, or the Stargate rights holders.
