Joe Mallozzi: "There Is No Other Platform" as Gero Stays Silent Under NDA and #SaveStargate Presses On

As the fan-led #SaveStargate campaign keeps the pressure on Amazon MGM Studios over the cancellation of Martin Gero's planned Stargate revival, longtime franchise producer Joe Mallozzi has given fans an unusually blunt assessment of where things actually stand — and it is a sobering one.

According to Cosmic Book News, Mallozzi — who served as a consulting producer on the canceled series — responded to a June 9 Amazon MGM social-media post asking which TV universe people would spend the summer in, a thread quickly flooded with "Stargate" replies, by writing that "it really feels like, at this point, they're just trolling fandom." He also shot down a circulating rumor that Netflix might license the property, dismissing it as "nonsense 'reporting'" from "a few bad actors exploiting fandom frustration."

Mallozzi was equally direct about the campaign's limits. Asked whether the show could simply move to another service, he replied: "There is no other platform. Amazon owns Stargate." Asked if there was a legal route to force Amazon to produce or sell the franchise, his answer was three words: "There is not." He also explained why Gero himself has stayed silent — the writer, who spent more than two years developing the project and remains under an overall deal at Amazon MGM, "is bound by an NDA," adding, "Even I am limited to what I can say."

Even so, Mallozzi pushed back on the notion that fans must accept whatever Amazon eventually makes, arguing that "fans aren't sheep that will follow any version of a product simply because it's vaguely familiar to them." The grassroots effort continues to grow: the independent campaign hub at savestargate.com is coordinating petition drives, letter-writing and social posts, a fan GoFundMe has helped fund an aerial banner over Amazon's Culver City studios, and cast members across all three series have lent their support. As of this report, Amazon MGM Studios has not publicly addressed the cancellation or the campaign.
