Trek Shorts Creator Launches a #SaveStargate Fan Film Fundraiser — With a 10-Episode Web Series in His Sights
Samuel Cockings, creator of the Trek Shorts fan-film series, has opened a GoFundMe to finish a "viral #SaveStargate short film" his team is making in response to Amazon MGM Studios cancelling Martin Gero's new Stargate series. According to the campaign page, principal photography is almost complete, with Trek Shorts cast members returning and hundreds of hours already spent on CGI and visual effects. Cockings describes the short as a combination of all three Stargate shows in a single story, and says the first funding goal would let the team finish the film in November.
The bigger ambition is a fan-made web series. If the campaign reaches its goal, Cockings says the team will spend the rest of 2026 preparing for a planned first "season" of 10 episodes, with stories drawn from SG-1, Atlantis and Universe, to be released in 2027 and shot from early 2027. The page says actress Emma Thorne has signed on to play a new Ancient character, and has already filmed a test mini-short in an original screen-used costume from the Stargate Atlantis episode "Aurora."
Some of what appears on screen will be the real thing: the page says Cockings' father has spent nearly 20 years collecting Stargate props and costumes, including dozens of original screen-used pieces. The campaign has a £10,000 target. When SGU Rewind checked the page, it had raised £2,600 from 43 donations. Cockings calls the project "still fan filmmaking" and says the team will do its utmost to respect MGM, Amazon and the franchise's creators.
The fundraiser is a fan project separate from the #SaveStargate campaign hub, which continues to urge Amazon MGM to reverse its decision.
